“He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened.”
? Lao Tzu
As Aristotle said, “knowing yourself is the beginning of all the wisdom.” We spend our lives judging other people, when we don’t know who WE are and WHAT we are for. To accomplish a life goal one must know himself first and accept whoever you are. When you know yourself you are empowered and when you accept yourself you are Invincible.
“A human being has so many skins inside, covering the depths of the heart. We know so many things, but we don’t know ourselves! Why, thirty or forty skins or hides, as thick and hard as an ox’s or bear’s, cover the soul. Go into your own ground and learn to know yourself there.” –Meister Eckhart
I. Know your strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes
You never yourself any better until the time you get to know your greatest strengths and your weaknesses. Challenge yourself for greater things to know how much you are able to do. Never stop trying to increase your knowledge and strength. All of us have weaknesses and they only way overcome those weaknesses is KNOWING them first, if you know them only then you can start fighting to get rid of them or ACCEPTING them if you can’t change. Your likes and dislikes, not just the color, food and stuff but what are your qualities you have and how you like or dislike them. When you know it you get pure and genuine by making yourself better.
“I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness.
All seems beautiful to me.
Whoever denies me, it shall not trouble me;
whoever accepts me, he or she shall be blessed, and shall bless me.”
? Walt Whitman
II. Observe your reactions
• How do you react in a situation?
• How do you act when you are depressed?
• How you clear your thought when they are filled with dirt?
• Are you a silent when angry or become violent when pushed to fury?
These are some of the questions you should ask yourself to know how you react in different situations. If you know these you will know yourself a little more.
“The first thing you have to know is yourself. A man who knows himself can step outside himself and watch his own reactions like an observer.”
? Adam Smith
III. Your emotions
Most of us are controlled by our emotions; we act according to our state of mind. One must realize how he feel toward particular things, and to control his emotions. Not everyone is aware of their true feelings until the time they try to find out! Writing a daily diary helps a lot in writing, knowing and controlling emotions.
“If you really want to know yourself, start by writing a book.” –Shereen El Feki

“The more you know yourself, the more patience you have for what you see in others.” – Erik Erikson
V. Know how you are affected by environment
How you are influenced by others and by the environment is also a key to know yourself. “Study yourself; it should be the first subject you learn and the one you revise each and every day”
? Evan Sutter
