How to Remove Scars from Stitches


It is necessary to stitch a scar when it is deeper and larger, otherwise it can’t heal on its own especially after surgeries. Adjoined skin and stitched area is always left with a residual scar on it. Getting rid of these scars is dependent on their size and severity up to a very extent.

Ways to remove scars from stitches:

Start massaging the area on regular basis after the wound is healed and the stitches are removed. Massage helps in breaking down dense areas and increases blood circulation to the skin which helps in healing it more quickly. In the course of a day, massage the area with stitches scar for a few minutes.


The result of exfoliating in not immediate but it is effective in long run. Frequent uses of it can help in reducing the appearance of stitch scars. Yu should get your skin exfoliated at least twice a week by either using an exfoliating scrub or a brush in order to get rid of dead skin cells. Rubbing the area gently in circular position works really well.


A very few people know about this method. You may ask your dermatologis about it. In this procedure the outer skin is sands away with a special instrument which allows a healthier and smoother skin to replace your dead skin. You cans see the results after the first time. The healing time may vary.

Laser treatment

Damaged portion of skin which is affected by the stitches can be removed via laser treatment. Laser burns off the scar tissue so very quickly. You may need to have several treatments in order to get the scar removed completely.  But laser treatment may have a few side effects such as mild inflammation.

Home remedies

If you have got less severe and relatively smaller scars from stitches then here a few home remedies to get rid of these:

Cucumber paste:

Applying cucumber paste on wounds helps in reducing scars left by stitches. Cucumber is composed of 90% water and contains the properties which make it perfect for removing surgical scares and scars from stitches and others. To minimize skin irritation, you can dilute cucumber with water.

Blend cucumber after removing it seeds with mint leaves and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Add a thoroughly broken egg in the blended mixture and shake well. Apply the mixture on your face and let it dry for 20 minutes and wash with fresh water.

Onion Juice:

Onion juice is with inflammatory properties which help in removing scars from the skin. Due to skincare functions of onion juice, various manufacturers sell onion jells that can be used effectively on the scars for maximal relief.

It works gradually but produces a noticeable effect.

Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice has remarkable potential which is helpful in replacing damaged and dead skin and helps in bringing back the normal appearance of your skin. Lemon contains hydroxyl acid which is good in healing your skin. Lemon juice also acts as exfoliate agent which bleaches the scars on your skin.

You can apply lemon oil on your skin by using a sterile cotton ball. Fully cover the infected area with the lemon juice and leave it for 10 minutes. Wash with cold tap water.

Tea tree oil:

Tea tree oil is an ideal remedy to remote the scars produced from stitches and acne. It has strong scar removing properties. Dilute it with water to get more benefited and less skin irritation.

Add a small amount if tea tree oil in a bowl of warm water. Prepare soapy mixture and splash on your face. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and then wash with fresh water.
