How to Treat Chest Infection Naturally

What is Chest Infection?

It is a very common infection in the respiratory system that engages inflammation of lower tract of respiratory system that consequently causes problem in breathing. It also causes pain in the chest and discomfort. In other words we can say that chest infection happens when the excess mucus and fluid is accumulated in the lungs, that is because when we take breathe we inhale particles from air i.e., dust viruses, bacteria etc. all these get trapped by mucus, which covers the mucus membranes, mucus is then coughed out and sometimes swallowed.


Causes of chest infection:

The main causes of chest infection are generally bacteria and virus on mucus, the other causes are:

Here are some effective natural home remedies that can treat chest infection, and have no side effects.

Garlic and Lime Soup

Garlic has calming properties that help chest blockage. Lime has citric acid that likewise gets you free of chest blockage.


Squeeze 3 fresh lemons in hot water, stir it and add crushed 1-2 garlic cloves. Now add black pepper powder (a tea spoon) and salt to taste. It is ready to drink.


Radishes carry some elements that are good to clear chest infection caused by bronchitis, allergies, cold or flu.


Chop a fresh radish, get the juice with the help of juicer, and drink this juice regularly for relief from chest infection. You can squeeze lemon into your radish juice.


This is another natural anti-inflammatory ingredient that come with amazing properties to calm the chest infection and many others.


 Turmeric with Apple Cider Vinegar

Take 2 table spoon of turmeric and 2 of apple cider vinegar, mix well ingredients and drink the mixture to get rid of chest infection.


It helps in breaking down the mucus in the airways that clear the chest infection.


Take half cup of warm water and add one teaspoon of salt and one pinch of turmeric. Now stir the mixture to gargle for 3-5 minutes. Repeat this at least 3 days.


Steam gives moisture and heat that is helpful to break and dissolve mucus in the lungs and throat by liquidizing them.


Add 5 drops of eucalyptus oil, 2 drops of rosemary essential oil and 3 drops of peppermint oil in the boiling water. Now take the steam well by draping a towel over your head, take deep breathe while bending over the water container. Keep getting the steam as long as you can and repeat this time you can take small intervals.

9. Bay Leaf:

Bay leaf is a natural herb that helps to treat chest congestion with its amazing natural properties.


  • Take few fresh bay leaves and put them in a cup of boiling water
  • Allow it to soak for few minutes and strain the tea
  • Drink this tea
  • Repeat the procedure every day until you got relief from chest congestion
  • Or you can use these leaves as hot compress by adding them to boiling the water
  • After the water is boiled, strain it and then dip a clean washcloth or towel in it and wring it to remove the excess water. Now apply this on your chest to clear the mucus

 Lemon and Honey

Lemon and honey are both very useful in fighting a lot of diseases and ailments because of the amazing properties they possess. The lemon carries citric acid and vitamin C which helps to improve the immune system, fights against bacteria, virus and also help to get rid of phlegm. Honey is a natural remedy for cough and so sooths chest infection.


Squeeze a lemon juice in tea spoon of organic honey, mix well in a glass of water (hot) and drink. This is one of the best remedies for chest infection and cough. Drink this mixture 3 times a day.
