What are the Health Risks of Being Overweight?

Overweight is when your body possesses more fats than what is considered healthy for a certain height. Overweight is common where lifestyles are sedentary and food supplies are plentiful. Being overweight causes numerous serious problems in kids and adults because if you are overweight, there is increased risk of developing various health problems.

Here are a few health risks associated with overweight which is also called as obesity:

High Blood Pressure:

High blood pressure is medically known as hypertension. Blood pressure means how hard your blood pushes itself against the walls of your veins and arteries. Hypertension usually does not contain any specific symptoms but it may lead you to serious consequences such as kidney failure, stroke and more importantly heart diseases.

Overweight is associated with high blood pressure in many ways. If you are overweighed it means you have a huge body and your heart needs to pump harder in order to supply the blood to all of your body cells. Obesity may also cause damage to your kidneys which help in regulating your blood pressure.

Heart Diseases:

Several problems with your hearts, that may affect it, are termed as heart diseases. They are mostly caused when blood vessels become hard and narrow. It hinders the blood flow to your heart. Heart diseases may take you to heart attack, heart failure, angina attack, abnormal circadian rhythm or sudden cardiac death.

Overweight increases the risk of heart diseases which include high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high cholesterol. Excess weight also may causes changes to your heart which push it to work harder and get affected.

Cancer:

When calls in one part of the body grow abnormally and out of control, it is known as cancer. These cells may spread to other parts of the body such as liver etc.

Overweight increases the risk of many types of cancers fat cells may release harmful hormones which affect cell growth and leads to cancer.

Stroke:

Stroke means death of brain cells which is caused when the flow of blood to a part of your brain stops. The most common type of stroke is known as ischemic stroke which occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery which carries blood to the brain.

Obesity increases blood pressure which is a leading cause of strokes.

Fatty Liver disease:

This disease is also called as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It occurs when the fat is produce in the body and it builds up in the liver and causes damage. It may even lead to liver failure. It sometimes makes symptoms.

This disease often takes place in those who are middle ages and with excessive overweight. It may also affect children.

Diabetes:

Over 80% people with diabetes are overly weighted. Being fat causes cells to change and makes the, resistant to the insulin.

Osteoarthritis:

It is a disease which causes pain and stiffness in your joints.

Overweight is one of the risk factors of osteoarthritis. Extra weight puts extra pressure on your joints and causes them to wear away.

Moreover, overweight or obesity may also lead to some other health risks which include sleep apnea, kidney diseases and some pregnancy problems.
