Stress Related Health Issues

Stress is the response of people towards stressors. When a person is stressed, their nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, which rouse the body for emergency action. Stress may lead to numerous physical and emotional disorders. Here we are listing down some of the most common health issues which are related to stress. Have a look!

Headaches

Headaches are very common among who take much stress. Stress is known as the most general activator of headaches. Headaches are of different types, most of them are caused due to stress and anxiety.

Depression and anxiety

Stress also leads to higher rates of depression and anxiety. Chronic stress causes so many other mental and emotional disorders. It has been found through a recent survey that people having stress related to their jobs are at higher risk of getting intense depression. Conditions such as demanding work with few rewards, not having compatibility with job and so many other such problems may cause much anxiety and depression.

Heart diseases

It has been found through researches that people who have chronic stress are at greater risk of high blood pressure and heart diseases. It is yet not known that what the exact reason behind this association is. Stress triggers a high heartbeat rate and blood circulation in the body and becomes a reason of releasing the cholesterol and triglycerides into the blood stream.

It may also be possible that the stress is associated with other problems such as increased smoking, overweight etc. they directly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

It is recommended that people with chronic heart problems should be kept from stressful conditions. Sudden emotional stress can cause serious heart problems.

Obesity

People with high stress seem to store excess fats in their belly, legs or hips. Excess amount of Fats leads to serious health problems in an individual. Stress produces higher levels of the hormone cortisol and the contributes in increasing the amount of fat which keeps on accumulating in the body and causes physical abnormalities.

Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease is another health issue faced by those who have been having chronic stress. Stress may make it more and worse with the passage of time. It causes brain lesions to form quickly. It has been shown by the researches that the progression of disease can be slow down by reducing the stress,

Asthma

A person already having asthma may develop more serious symptoms if they get stress. Stress can worsen asthma. It has also been suggested through the studies that the chronic stress in parents can develop stress in their children. Mothers who are stressed and do smoking during their pregnancy give birth the infected babies, moreover kids with stressed out parents are at higher risk of developing asthma.

Diabetes

Stress also can harm the people with diabetes. It can worsen their disease in two ways. Stress increases the likelihood of wrong behaviors which means they may start eating unhealthy food and may start drinking excessively. On the other hand stress releases the glucose level of the diabetic people, suffering from type 2 diabetes.

Premature death

Studies have shown that stress affects the health. Elderly caregivers looking after their spouses get a great deal of stress, depression and anxiety. An the caregivers have 63% higher rate of death as compared to people who are not doing this job.
